It seems these days we can't go more than a week without a fandom war of sorts. One group of fans fighting another group of fans. It happens nearly daily in the Twitter world. Whether it be with individual people or in the public eye with the trending topics. Most recently it was One Direction fans & Justin Bieber fans in the battle for the VMA's. This is a topic that have always annoyed me and pissed me off because I see it quite often on my own timelines.
So when One Direction was asked about fandom wars between One Direction fans, "directioners," and The Wanted fans, "TW Fanmily," in a recent interview with Access Hollywood I thought their body language and what they said were very interesting (around 2:54).

Although I thought everything they said was interesting, let's just focus on what Liam said there "they just want it." Isn't that the truth? Why do fans of these different teen pop idols (Justin Bieber, One Direction, Big Time Rush, etc) insist on always fighting with one another? Let me tell you I see the most ridiculous stuff sometimes. The most ridiculous rumors, statements, opinions, and so called "facts" - it's a good laugh. I see people say you have to pick sides and they make it seem like it's almost illegal to like more than one. But let me ask you, what's the point? To prove one band or one artist is better than the other? I'm a fan of many, many different bands and artists, all three above mentioned boy bands included.
Of course soon after the above interview, Louis Tomlinson of One Direction and Nathan Sykes indirectly tweeted each other on Twitter. The conversation started after an interview with The Wanted at the VMA's where the interviewer thought the band was One Direction. The Wanted went along with it and when asked about the new single the boys said "It's better than ours, much better" meaning their song "I Found You" is better than 1D's upcoming song "Live While We're Young." It's safe to assume though all the indirect tweets (and the interview) is all in good fun - it sure gave me a good laugh especially when Tom got involved. Gotta love a little FRIENDLY competition between boy bands. |
I guess the point of this blog post (if there really is a point) is that why can't we all respect one another or at least be friendly with one another (you know like your favorite bands & artists are - if they don't fight, why should you)? Not everybody is gonna have the same tastes in music and that's a good thing! Because seriously how boring would it be if we all loved the same thing? I just think people should learn to respect other's opinions. And if you don't like a band or artist, why talk about them? I see people all the time talk crap about a band or artist they don't like literally ALL THE TIME - why do you do that? What's the point of that? Just stop and focus your energy on the bands and artists you DO support, believe me the world will be a happier place...well at least Twitter will be.
