Hey everybody! I'm Joe, in case you don't know who I am I write the majority of the stories you see everyday here on Hit Zone. In some of those articles I let my opinion and personality come through but sometimes I just let it be, so I thought why not do something where I get to share my thoughts on some of this week's biggest stories and/or topics (as if you really care what I think, LOL) or why I did or didn't write about a topic that might have made headlines. Anyway this is a little something I like to call, my Weekly Breakdown.
One Direction on the Cover of British GQ
One Direction on the Cover of British GQ
So it was announced this week that the boys of One Direction were going to be on the cover of the September issue of the British version of GQ Magazine. Each guy got their own cover and it's fair to say that a good chunk of fans weren't happy with most of the photos or the content of the interview inside. I didn't really cover the GQ story because of this reason and not to mention the quotes in the interview were from months ago - hense the whole Liam still being in a relationship thing and the fact that the article mentioned that it took place backstage at the O2 Arena - clearly some media outlets that jumped to conclusions didn't pick up on that. But what I noticed was Harry got most of the attention in the article, another thing that angered fans as well as myself, the writer treated it as if the other boys were less important (which is NOT the case). Harry was also grilled on if he's bisexual and if he's in a relationship with friend and BBC Radio1 Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw, he said something like 'pretty sure I'm not bisexual,' - can I ask why it even matters? And is it any of our business whether he's straight, gay, or bisexual? Why is this something that is continuously debated in the media? It's not like it really matters, just let the man live his life. The piece also argued that in order for One Direction to become more popular they have to tell more about their lives and although that's right, I would say that they're already pretty darn open with fans and fans know a lot about them. To be honest, I wasn't much of a One Direction fan until I got to learn more about their personalities and who they are as people. That made me love One Direction - the catchy music is just a nice cherry on top.
Radio Host Kidd Kraddick Passes Away
Radio Host Kidd Kraddick Passes Away
I couldn't believe the news on Saturday night (July 27) when the news broke that Dallas based radio host Kidd Kraddick died. It shocked me much like it shocked the many celebrities who's careers he helped and the thousands of listeners that started their day with him every weekday morning. I didn't listen to Kidd's show every morning, but being a radio geek I listened to the podcasts of his show occasionally and I always LOVED his celebrity interviews. He made them fun and different, he didn't ask the same boring questions that a lot of people ask and the celebrities loved hanging out with him. As a matter of fact, during what was his last week he played basketball with who he called his "5 illegitimate sons known as 'One Direction'" while they were in Dallas for their Take Me Home Tour. Beyond that, Kidd impacted many lives and raised lots of money with his Kidd's Kids charity and he spent his final day raising money for his charity and even planned the first ever Concert for Kidd's Kids with the Jonas Brothers and Jason Derulo in August. You can listen to the cast of his radio show pay tribute to him on Monday morning (July 29) HERE, but prepare to tear up a bit.

Adam Levine Says Mission of 'The Voice' is to Entertain, Not To Find a Superstar
Last weekend Adam Levine along with Cee-Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Carson Daly from The Voice addressed reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Los Angeles and they were asked why the show hasn't produced a standout superstar after 4 seasons. Adam basically said it's unrealistic to think that could happen and that the mission of the show is to really help talented artists while they're on the show and entertain the audience. How is it unrealistic to expect a superstar though? The winner doesn't necessarily have to be the superstar but any of the contestants really but none of them have really made much of an impact in the mainstream music world as of yet. American Idol used to whip out superstars and X Factor has brought has many talents on the UK version of the show - so why can't The Voice? Here's what I think, I think the talent they find on the show although are EXTREMELY talented, they don't appeal to the majority after the show. They don't really do pop music on The Voice, it's mostly country (least this past season) or rock. And on The Voice it appears to really all about the voice and the voice only, it's not so much about the full package like it is on say X Factor, example. I mean if you look at some of the contestants on The X Factor last season, despite being very they would've never made it on The Voice cause it's more about the full package. And having the full package will make you successful.
PS - I LOVE The Voice and find it very entertaining and I still have very high hopes for Voice season 3 winner Cassadee Pope and all three of season 4's finalists - I loved every one of them. Fingers crossed they become the breakout stars for The Voice.
Thanks for reading and thanks for visiting Hit Zone this week! Let's see if I remember to do this again next week, LOL!
