Emblem 3's Drew Chadwick has said that he is hoping their mentor Simon Cowell will allow the band to take more risks on The X Factor. The California band performed a version of The Monkees' "I'm A Believer" on Wednesday night's show which earned mixed reviews, it was a song that Drew says doesn't really represent Emblem 3's style.
"[Simon] plays it safe. Super safe," Drew told E! News backstage at The X-Factor. "We gotta get the perfect arrangement and song, and we look forward to the opportunity."
He continued by saying he hopes they get to show off more of their musical ability in the future: "We're more than just [a boyband]. We're real artists. We are," he insisted. "It's easy to get the girls [as fans]. We wanna get the guys, too!"
Meanwhile fellow band member Wesley Stromberg had something to say about judge Demi Lovato's critique of them last night when she said they "lost their spark."
"I think she just misses our first performance of our original song," said Wesley. "She sees us all the time playing our guitars backstage, and she wants to bring that out. She wants us to do a little more of what we really do naturally."
We thought they did a great job last night - check out Gigi's X-Factor Xtra to see the boys' performance as well as others from the night.
Do you agree that Simon is playing it safe with song choices for the band?
