Who doesn't love fall? Not only do the leaves change and give us a nice change of scenery, there's a bit of a change of scenery on our televisions. Our contributor Sharon has put together a fall TV preview on what to expect to see from the dramas on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and The CW this fall.
SUNDAY, September 30th looks to be a big nightfor drama with the return of CBS’s The Good Wife (9-10), followed by The Mentalist (10-11), as well as ABC’s Once Upon A Time (8-9) and Revenge (9-10). And if scorned wives, crimedrama, fairy tales, or convoluted plots aren’t enough for you, there’s also thepremiere of ABC’s 666 Park Avenue (10-11), which as the title suggests, is a devilish good time. What isn’t fun about an apartment buildingthat you can move into, but can’t move out of?

MONDAY, FOX has a night of premieres on September 17th with Bones at 8pm. Brennan returnsfrom being on the lam for three months with her baby. How is Booth going todeal with missing that time in his daughter’s life? After that, new series The Mob Doctor premieres at 9pm starring Jordana Spiro (My Boys) as a doctorrepaying her debt to the mob by providing medical care. Brennan), there’s always Beckett and Castle in the premiere of ABC’s Castle (10-11), which will, quiteliterally, pick up in Castle’s bed. Or,you can check out the return of CBS’s Hawaii Five-O (10-11) for your weekly dose of beach bods, family snafus, and someawesome police chases! October 8th is the return of fan favorite teendramas The CW’s 9O21O (8-9) and Gossip Girl (9-10)! Our favorite zipcode kicks off dramatically with a death and a possible baby; plus, is the nicest boy in Beverly Hillsreally going to become a bad boy? Carly Rae Jepsen is set to guest star on anupcoming episode. As for the finalseason of the Upper East Side drama, expect a return to the core group we knewand loved from the beginning. TUESDAY, The theme for CBS’s NCIS (8-9) tenth season is “fallen heroes” says executive producer,Gary Glasberg. The same could be said for NCIS:Los Angeles (9-10), which premieres on the same night, September 25th, Callen (Chris O’Donnell) has been released from prison, but isn’t out of thedoghouse yet! To continue your night of drama, either stick with NBC’s Parenthood (10-11) or head over to ABC’s Private Practice (10-11) which, at 13 episodes, looks to be having a short season but Kate Walsh is hopeful hercharacter, Addision, goes out in a blaze of glory. Guess you’ll have to watch and see! For a little “hartier” fare on your Tuesday, check out The CW’s Hart of Dixie (8-9), whichpremieres October 2nd! Will Rachel Bilson’s doctor Zoe end up with Wade or George, who called off his wedding at the last minute only to show upat Zoe’s door on the heels of her finally (finally!) hooking up with Wade? The CW will extendtheir night of doctor drama, and comedy, on October 16th with theseries premiere of Emily Owens, M.D. (9-10), a dramedy about an internal-monologue-prone intern. WEDNESDAY, September 26th is the season premiereof CBS’s Criminal Minds (9-10) and CSI (10-11). Mind’s fans will get to re-visit past stories as a new Un Subdecides to replicate past crimes the team already solved. Interesting twist or cop-out? You decide! Over on NBC, lookfor the premiere of their crime procedural Law & Order: SVU at 9pm, followed by the series premiere of their new drama Chicago Fire at 10pm.
. | Still holding its own, and moving to Wednesdays after defying the odds when it was moved to Friday night in previous years, Supernatural (9-10) is back for its eighth season on October 3rd! Apparently some new mythology introduced at the beginning of this season willgive the series enough juice for this entire season, AND beyond! If you’re looking for any new shows, tonight’s the night forthat! Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights, American Horror Story) and Hayden Panettiere (Heroes) star in ABC’s new drama Nashville (10-11). The story of a middle-aged female country star looking to jumpstart her career again opening for a new, young, female country sensation. Thestory focuses on the heart of Nashville, though, and all the people with talentwho go there and either make it or don’t. It should prove to be both crazy,with an epic rivalry between the two leads, and heartwarming, as country music always seems to inspire! Must check it out on October 10th! |
If you want something a little more ‘rippling abs’, catch new comer Stephen Amell in The CW’s series premiere of Arrow (8-9). Based on DC Comics’ Green Arrow, Amell plays billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, who, after being shipwrecked for five years,returns to his home town ready to fight crime with his killer archery skills. Also starring Katie Cassidy (Supernatural, Harper’s Island), who is expected to become the alter-ego Black Canary at some point. (OCT. 10)

THURSDAY, ABC’s launches Last Resort (8-9) on September 27th, starring Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman (Felicity), a Navy crew violates a direct order to nuke Pakistan and takes off, landing on anisland and creating their own little nation there. That same night, CBS introduces Elementary, a story about Sherlock Holmes with a twist. What if Watson were actually a woman? And that woman was Lucy Lui? Returning dramas include ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy (9-10), picking up a few months after the planecrash; CBS’s Person of Interest (9-10), where Root’s (Amy Acker, Angel) master plan is slowly revealed; and ABC’s Scandal (10-11), revealing the answerto ‘Who is Quinn Perkins?’. |
The CW Thursday comes back into full swing on October 11th with the hugely popular The Vampire Diaries (8-9). How will Elena cope with becoming a vampire? How will Damonand Stefan cope with her becomingone? The CW also launches new drama Beauty & The Beast (9-10), which, asyou guessed, is about a “tale as old as time”, the only difference being Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) at its helmthis time around, and a Beast with issues stemming from the attack on the US on 9/11.
. | FRIDAY, Generally speaking, premiering a drama on a Fridaynight isn’t always the best bet, but in CBS’s case, after launching thesuccessful Blue Bloods (10-11) on Fridays two years ago and it still marches on, Made in Jersey (9-10), a legal procedural straight out of Jersey and loosely based on 2010’s The Fighter, might stand a chance. Check out thepremiere of both shows on September 28th along with CBS’s CSI: NY at 8pm. The CW’s Nikita (9-10)provides a dose of girls kicking-butt mixed with secret agencies on October 19th, but Friday night really belongs to the Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Supernatural world with FOX’s psychic Touch (OCT. 26, 8-9) andscience fiction thriller Fringe (SEPT.28, 9-10), and NBC’s Grimm (9-10) moving from Mondays to Fridays starting September 21st! |
