Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy has broke his silence for the first time since Cory Monteith's tragic passing and addressed how the show will go forward now and what will happen to his character, Finn Hudson.
"When you’re faced with something so sad and so shocking, what do you do? Do we cancel the show? Do we start shooting in January? What do we do?" he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "Ultimately, we decided the best thing for everyone is to get back to work and be around people who knew him and loved him so that everyone can grieve together."
Murphy said that how they will Monteith's absence from the show has not yet been decided, but one thing is for sure, they will NOT be recasting his character of Finn Hudson. The current plan is to deal with the passing in episode 3 of the upcoming season, which will be a tribute to the actor and the characters will deal with the death of his character, Finn.

"The right thing to do for the show, at least at this point, is to have that character pass. When we do the tribute episode to that character, we'll have to do it in a way where the castmembers will not have to re-create feelings of grief that they’ve had this week -- but do it in an upbeat way," Ryan continued. "If we can do this responsibly and help young people through these feelings, that’s the best that we can hope for."
It was announced on Friday (July 19) that Glee's fifth season premiere date has been pushed back a week and is now September 26 with production starting in early-August instead of late-July. The first two episodes of the season will be a long-planned Beatles tribute, which has already been written and will need to be tweaked slightly before filming.
