It's been quite the change in the past five years for One Direction's Liam Payne. In a recent interview with The Sun, the 1D heartthrob reflected on his worst gig. That's right, for all you 1D haters out there who think he's had a easy way up in the music industry - Liam actually worked his way up and performed at gigs before he auditioned for The X-Factor in the UK. Things were so bad for Liam that he actually considered giving up singing all together.
“There's one awful gig that always sticks in my mind. I filled in for Lee Ryan doing The Sunshine Festival in Rhyl. It was raining," he describes. “Me and my dad traveled from Wolverhampton. I played for ten people for £50. That had to be my worst gig — that was the last straw. I was like, ‘I’m not doing this any more dad, I don’t want to’. I’d have been turning 16. It was the day after my birthday. It was just terrible.”
This gig came after his first try for fame on The X Factor ended in tears back in 2008 when he was booted off by Simon Cowell at the judges’ houses stage because, at 14, the show boss felt that he was too young.
We're so happy Liam didn't give up on his dreams. No 1D song would be the same without him.
Just two months ago him and the boys performed in front of the world at the 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremonies and in just about two months, he'll be performing at Madison Square Garden in NYC, a venue in which him and the 1D boys sold out in just ten minutes.
