If there was any doubt that One Direction runs the world of pop music, this should put that to rest. 1D's sophomore album, Take Me Home, has officially sold over 1 million copies in the United States! The news comes just five weeks since its November 13 US release. The album sold another 127,000 copies this week, keeping it steady at #4 on the Billboard 200. This brings the total sales so far to 1.04 million, according to Billboard. One Direction's debut album, Up All Night, was released back in March and has sold 1.51 million copies so far. |
This makes them the first act since Kenny Chesney in 2005 to sell 1,000,000+ copies of two albums in one calendar year.
The impressive sales numbers also place their two albums at #3 (Up All Night) and #8 (Take Me Home) on the best-selling albums of 2012, Billboard reports. Currently, Adele's 21 leads with 4.30 million while Taylor Swift's Red is in second place with 2.59 million.
It's not surprising considering the band already has two smash singles from the album, "Live While We're Young" and the UK #1 "Little Things," with a third on the way soon with "Kiss You."
One Direction takes the stage on The X-Factor finale tonight (December 20) on FOX!
