Hard to believe we are already on the 5th week of the live playoffs of The Voice! Last night the top 8 competed for your vote in hopes of advancing into the top 6.
The show opened up with a world premiere performance of 50 Cent’s new single "My Life" featuring Adam Levine.
The show opened up with a world premiere performance of 50 Cent’s new single "My Life" featuring Adam Levine.
Then we dived straight into the performances, Team Adam's Amanda Brown kicked things off with a rock version of "Someone Like You" by Adele – Blake said he really enjoyed it. Christina called it another dynamic and powerful performance, but said she's still waiting to tap into that powerful moment she had with “Dream On”
Cody Belew from Team Cee Lo was up next with "Somebody To Love" by Queen because Freddy Mercury was one of his musical inspirations and heroes. Adam said it was great and that it was one of his favorite songs. Blake called him and Cee Lo the perfect combination. Cee Lo said he was super proud of his growth at the fast rate. It was a really great and theatrical performance.
The always awesome Scottish rocker Terry McDormott from Team Blake was next and he took on Blake's song "Over" in which he received a standing ovation from Blake. Cee-Lo said he reminds him of great rock vocalists. Adam jokingly said “so that’s what that song is supposed to sound like” and said it was inspiring and he’s one of the best in the competition. Blake said he performed it the way it was meant to be and in ways he couldn't.
Melanie Martinez from Team Adam was up next with "Too Close" by Alex Clare. Christina loved the set but said it didn't really go anywhere but still was a good performance. Adam said she did a good job bringing her emotion through.
Then it was time for Team Christina's only remaining contestant, Dez Duron with his own version of "You Smile" by Justin Bieber. Cee Lo said it wasn't his best but it he’s still one of his favorites. Adam applauded him for walking away from his safety net and taking a risk on The Voice. Christina said he did a great job revamping it and making it his own and said not many others can do what he did.
Trevin Hunte from Team Cee-Lo was up next with a great performance of Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All." All of the coaches agreed it was another great performance and said when he dies and hopefully goes to heaven it’s similar to what he just did on stage.
Team Cee-Lo continued with Nicholas David's performance of "What’s Going On." Adam said he’s jealous of David because every week he performs one of his dream songs. Blake said he learns something new from him every week.
Cassadee Pope from Team Blake wrapped up the night and had a lot to live up to after her performance last week went to #1 on iTunes! She came out rockin' "Are You Happy Now" by Michelle Branch and got a standing ovation from Blake. Cee Lo jokingly said he’s not happy now because she could win. And after slamming a LA music venue, Adam said he was scared by the smoke machine but said she’s the front runner for a variety of reasons.
And that's your rundown of all the individual performances of the night, but in-between all the solo performances, the final 8 was divided up in to two groups of four for two group performances.
Terry McDermott, Melanie Martinez, Dez Duron and Cassadee Pope teamed up for a rockin' performance of All American Rejects' "Move Along."
And later in the show, Cody Belew, Nicholas David, Trevin Hunt and Amanda Brown took the stage to perform Journey's "Any Way You Want It."
