After FOX made the controversial decision to not air last Wednesday's (October 17) episode of The X-Factor in it's entirety in favor of baseball playoffs, many saw that as a hint that the network was not committed to the show anymore and rumors began surfacing that the show may be done here in the US. However, today FOX put those rumors to rest as they renewed the show for a third season.
“This season, Simon and the producers of The X-Factor took an already strong show and made it absolutely fantastic," said FOX president of alternative entertainment Mike Darnell in a network press release today. "The format changes are working, the contestants are unbelievably talented, and Britney and Demi – alongside Simon and L.A – have brought an incredibly fun new chemistry to the judges’ panel that our fans really love,” said Darnell. “We feel great about the show and I’m thrilled to bring it back next year for Season Three.”
The finale of the judges homes portion of the show, the episode that was shown in parts last week, will air in it's entirety tomorrow (October 23) at 9:30/8:30c on FOX.
The live shows with the top 16 acts kick off with a special two and a half hour show on Thursday, November 1 at 8/7c with new hosts Khloé Kardashian Odom and Mario Lopez. The live shows continue on special night, Sunday, November 4 at 8/7c with additional performances and the season 2 finalists.
