The end of summer is quickly approaching us, but there's still enough time yet to squeeze out some fun time in the sun and the boys of Emblem3 have some beach-ready tunes that will make the perfect summer soundtrack for whatever you do. After coming in fourth on The X Factor, Drew, Wesley, and Keaton have proven to be the standout from season 2 so far with the most mainstream success so far with their single "Chloe." Their debut album proves to stay true to their unique sound that helped them make it big. Here's Hit Zone's track-by-track review of the standard edition of E3's debut album, Nothing To Lose. |
1.) Just For One Day
This is a great song to kick off the album, starting out with very fun instrumentals that totally sounds like it's meant to be played in the summer. From the moment I heard this song it was stuck in my head, much like many of the other songs on this album. Also check out their acoustic performance of this song backstage at Good Morning America back in June.

2.) Spaghetti
"Spaghetti" continues the fun summer-like instrumentals and has a catchy chorus and is about ditching the party and kicking back at home with some spaghetti and that "everything’s gonna be all right."
3.) XO
Fun fact about this song, Benji Madden and Joel Madden, who you might know from the band Good Charlotte, are credited as co-writers on this song along with Drew. This song has some cool whistling that makes it fun as the guys send their fans all their love in this track.

4.) Chloe (You're The One I Want)
"Chloe" was the band's first single following their time on X Factor and I was a fan of this song from the moment I heard it. Again much like every other track on this album it features sweet instrumentals and is also very catchy.

5.) Girl Next Door
The music slows down a bit for "Girl Next Door" but not too much. The title says it all as the boys sing about how there's "something 'bout the girl next door." You can check out a acoustic performance of this track on YouTube.
6.) Nothing To Lose
The title track for the album has got to be another one of my favorites on the album. The lyrics of the song even includes a little mention of "Call Me Maybe" as well as "that Taylor chick." The boys did a great acoustic performance of this song on their tour bus earlier this month that's certainly worth checking out as well.

7.) I Love LA
And here we have another one of my favorites. It's basically like a anthem for Los Angeles, the area beaches, and the entire west coast in general. I suddenly feel like wanting to go to Cali after listening to this track.

8.) Sunset Blvd.
This is the only song on the album written exclusively boy the boys and nobody else. The boys brought an arena full of people to their feet and wow'd the judges when they took the risk of making this song their audition song on X Factor. It's a risk that paid off and with one listen to the song it's easy to see why.

9.) 3,000 Miles
They slow things down a bit again for this song as the boys sing about dreaming of being home and missing that special someone who is "3,000 miles" away.
10.) Teenage Kings
This is kinda of a great party songs and another one of my favorites. Singing about being "teenage kings pretending they're famous." It's a good one.

11.) One Day
The standard edition of the album wraps up with a fresh take on Matisyahu’s hit song and again it's by far another one of my favorites on the album. This cover is also has a connection to their X Factor roots, this was the song they sang at the very first live show - check that out here.

Final Verdict: 9.5/10 - I was a huge fan of Emblem3 on The X Factor, they were one of my favorites on the show with their unique reggae sound and fun performances every week. Their debut album stays true to their unique sound that people who haven't heard their music before might not expect to hear from these three guys. One thing that also makes this album even better is that the boys contributed to the writing credits on 6 of the 11 songs. From the first time I listened to the album, I loved it and had to listen to the whole thing again...and again..and again..and you get the point. There really wasn't any song I didn't like.
Nothing To Lose is out on Tuesday (July 30) in standard and deluxe versions. The deluxe version features 4 additional tracks, which includes live versions of "Jaiden" and "Reason." Be sure to go support the boys and pick up or download a copy.
