Despite being a big part of pop music, boy bands have always had a tough time gaining credibility in the music world. And those indie and rock folks love to have a go at them and their music. But even though today's boy bands have taken more control over their music and write much of their own stuff, people don't seem to realize that. The Wanted's Nathan Sykes recently spoke out about the difficultly of gaining credibility in a boy band.
"It’s harder to get the credit as a credible music artist because people instantly put you ten steps backwards," Nathan told Glamour Magazine. "We get it all the time: ‘We don’t like you because you’re a boy band, but we like your songs.’"
"No one walks up to Kings of Leon and says, ‘I don’t really like you guys because you’re a rock band, but I like your songs.'"
These comments come just around the same time as The Oasis indie rocker, Noel Gallagher, hit out (AGAIN) at The Wanted's best friends One Direction and all of pop music and all of us pop music fans in general really.

"Pretty f**king dreadful, the music is. I can't get my head round pop music," he told GQ Magazine. "It's all on the same frequency. It all seems designed to aggravate my teeth. You know music that makes your teeth hurt? There's a lack of soul on Radio 1. I mean, what is going to be the future of chart music?"
He went on and on about how disgraceful pop music and how they're murdering music and used a bunch of choice words, but I think you get the point.
People who think they're too good for pop music are people you don't need in your life.
