Hey everybody! I'm gonna try to be careful not to offend anyone in this blog and if I do, I'm sorry and I don't mean to.
I've been seeing things lately that kinda anger me a bit when it comes to judging people based on their music tastes. Most recently it was a tweet about how a guy shouldn't cover a certain very popular band (a band that happens to be named below). Now of course music tastes can tell you a lot about a person, but not everything. I think one of the biggest judgements that is made is that only girls can like "boy bands" - and if guys like them it says something about their sexuality. I say what's wrong with a straight guy liking the music of bands that happen to be made up of guys? Aren't most bands made up of guys anyway?

Take me for example, you can probably tell by the stuff we cover on here that I'm a fan of the three biggest boy bands in the world right now (One Direction, The Wanted, & Big Time Rush) and I also dig some N'Sync and Backstreet Boys from back in the day. I've always been a fan of catchy music and that's exactly what all those bands deliver. Not to mention, these guys in these bands happen to be around my age so I can relate to them personally and in two of those band's cases, I become fans because I got to know the people in them and discovered what cool, down to earth people they are - I didn't become fans because of the music at first, although I love the music they provide. If I believe a person or members of a band are cool people, I'll support them. I do the same thing when it comes to football, I root for people in the NFL and not so much teams (well outside of the Denver Broncos...obviously).
Let me ask, besides the music, what's the difference of a guy liking a band like Simple Plan or Hot Chelle Rae (who I'm also a big fan of) and a band like One Direction or The Wanted? Sure the music is slightly different, but they're both made up of a bunch of guys who sing, but yet it's more "socially acceptable" for guys to be fans of bands like the first two.
Regardless everybody's music taste is unique. We may not all agree but that's what keeps it interesting. What type of music makes me happy or what artist I happen to think is the greatest, you might think sucks.
I think Niall Horan said it best on Twitter back in November.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I don't think we should question other's music tastes, everybody has their own, even if it's against the "popular opinion" and that's what makes us all unique. They probably have their own reasons for being fans of who they're fans of - reasons of which might not be very obvious.
Just my opinion.
Thanks for reading - stay cool my friends!
