I often read on the Internet about how (insert artist here) from back in the day is soooo much more talented than (insert artist here) from today. And I'm here to say, who's decides that? Who's to say the artists of today aren't just as good (or even better) than artists from back in the day? Isn't that really just personal opinion?
To start things off, I see quite often about how looks are more important than talent in music today. To a point, I'd agree with that but at the same time you gotta have some kind of talent, right? Of course who's hot and who's not is also personal opinion. I can also think of several of today's hottest musicians who aren't exactly good looking but are still famous anyway because of their talent. I'm not gonna name them, but you know that one and you can't forget that other one.
I also notice the people who get the most crap are those in boy bands such as The Wanted and One Direction. People say "they're only famous because they're hot" or "you wouldn't like them if they weren't hot." Guess what? I like them and it's not because they're hot. It's because I appreciate their talent, their music is catchy and awesome, and they're good people.
Take a look at this video below and then we can talk about how One Direction are so "untalented."

Music has changed so much from the 80's to now. Back then it was all about rock today I would argue rock isn't nearly as popular. Today it's all about pop music/Top 40 radio type stuff. Some people may not consider that "good music" compared to what was popular back in the day. But the types of music are so different, how does one even compare them? Not to mention everybody's definition of "good music" is different. For example, I consider the music on my HOT20 Chart good music, you may not.
My point being is, everybody has their own opinion when it comes to what they consider good music. Who are you to make fun of that? I feel like you can't really deny true talent. There's a lot of people who are on the radio right now that I can't stand - but there's no denying they have some talent (at least on some level).
Look for another blog from me next week about a somewhat similar topic. Thanks for reading!
